WHAT IS A DISCIPLE?
A disciple is a follower of particular word or doctrine. To be a disciple of Christ, then, is to be one who follows Jesus and lives in obedience to his commands. The purpose of discipleship is to shape believers into committed followers of Christ who live out the kind of devotion that Jesus described through his teachings.
Forging Disciples
Forging Disciples is a 501c3 non-profit ministry devoted to growing biblical discipleship in the Northern California region. We are a group of men who love God and who want to help other men get to know and love God too. We do this through life on life discipleship.
Our vision
To encourage and equip men to be Christ-like servant leaders in their home, church, and community.
Our mission
To expand life on life discipleship throughout the Greater Sacramento region.
WHAT WE DO
We have discipled over 100 men life-on-life, teaching them to love God with all their heart, mind, soul, and strength, and love their neighbors as they love themselves.
Men are introduced to God’s transformational process of studying His Word, remembering what God has said, and applying it in his daily life.
They are guided to have a quiet time with God each morning, which includes praying the Lord’s Prayer, meditating on His Word, and listening to what God is saying to him.
OUR APPROACH
Our approach goes beyond filling in blanks on a sermon outline or a bible study. We meet with men one-on-one a couple of times per month. We help them understand God’s Word, how it relates to them, and what they want to do about it. We also provide the accountability they need in order to allow Jesus to transform them into the sons He wants them to be.
As a result of discipleship, men who used to be impatient and angry become patient and loving. Anxiety turns to confidence, and fear is replaced by courage.
Our disciple’s wives have experienced renewed love and admiration from their husbands and have witnessed his relationship with his children become more caring, genuine, and frequent.
How We Do It
Our approach goes beyond filling in blanks on a sermon outline or a bible study. We meet with men in a private setting life-on-life every two weeks for 1.5 hours. We help them understand God’s Word, how it relates to them, and encourage them to obey God’s Word. We provide the accountability and encouragement they need in order to allow Jesus to transform them into the son, God wants them to be.
As a result of discipleship, our men, who are struggling with issues from their past and display anger, hostility, bitterness and are impatient and angry, begin to start acting more patient and loving. Anxiety turns to confidence, and fear is replaced by courage.
Our disciple’s wives have experienced renewed love and admiration from their husbands and have witnessed his relationship with his children become more caring, genuine, and frequent.
WHO
WE
SERVE
We come along side married men who want to eliminate the anger, bitterness, hatred, and hostility in their lives that is damaging their most important relationships.
Many men we serve are successful in their career and are business leaders who have a desire to change these same destructive habits at work.
Many of our men experienced neglect, abandonment, or abuse at the hands of their fathers and these issues still negatively impact them and the respect and trust of their wife, kids, colleagues, and friends.
Testimonies of a Few People We Have Discipled:
Sam
I met Bill Coibion twelve years ago as Principal of Martin Luther King Junior High School (MLK). He was one of many Pastors who visited MLK. My school had many very serious problems stemming from extreme fatherlessness (90%) which was destroying their future.
John
My relationship with Christ really started to grow when I started being discipled by a mature Christian man, Bill Coibion. From Bill, I began to learn to pray with great passion and meaning. I also needed to lean on Him and ask Him for help.
Joseph
Bill Coibion has been a strength of support in my walk with Christ over the last 18 years, from our days in a large church men’s ministry (where Bill was the men’s pastor) to pouring time into fatherless young boys in Del Paso Heights, Sacramento.
