Christians Were Made For Crisis

You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. Galatians 5:13

Brothers-in-Christ, our time is now! Amidst the fear and uncertainty of the COVID19 pandemic lies the greatest opportunity of our lifetimes. The opportunity to show our true colors; to show Whom we serve (spoiler alert…it’s Jesus).

Our Lord has commanded us to love our neighbors as we love ourselves and I see millions of our neighbors around the country and in our communities who need the peace that surpasses human understanding.

I am encouraging you to seize the opportunity that this pandemic has created for us. Find a way to serve people right now. It could be as simple as reaching out to pray for people in need of comfort. It could be reaching out to your neighbors to see who is going to need help in providing for themselves in the coming months. It could be using your unique gifts to fill one of the many needs that have spread across our communities along with the virus.

People will remember how we, Christians, acted during the crisis. Will we focus on hunkering down with our family, distracted by the news of the day.? Or will we be Jesus with skin on, loving on those who are different from us?

I had a moment of panic two weeks ago. My panic was that “what if the pandemic ends before I stepped up to serve?” What if I let the greatest opportunity of my life to love my neighbors pass me by without taking radical action?

God forbid that happens…literally. God forbids us to focus our lives on ourselves and our needs. Instead, he unequivocally commands us to turn our attention and our hearts outward…Love your neighbors as you love yourself.

Join me in stepping up to serve. We were made for this.

With Gratitude,

Jeremiah
