How Well Do You Know God?

In John 17:3 Jesus states, “Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent”. The key word here is “know”, which means In the Greek, an intimacy with Him similar to the intimacy a man has making love with his wife.

How do His people get to know Him?

Many Christians will share with you the importance of spending a regular time in God’s Word and in prayer each day. Yet, so many of us struggle to do this consistently.

In James 1:25 God states …. “But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it will be blessed in what he does.”

Here God is sharing with us how to “know Him” and in doing so His way, be blessed in all we do! Do you desire to be blessed by the God of our Universe? I would guess you’d say, YES!

A way to start down the pathway of life with God is to set aside a daily period of time early (30 minutes or more) in the morning (before others in your household are up and your day breaks loose) to have a special time with Jesus, during which you may desire to:

  1. Praise Him for who He is and for the blessing He has bestowed upon you; share your burdens, concerns and anxieties with Him and ask Him to speak to you through His Word.

  2. Ask the Holy Spirit to make clear to you what God means as you meditate or study portions of His Word

  3. Determine how what God means applies to you, then

  4. Decide whether you’re going to obey Him or disregard Him, and

  5. Close with the Lord’s Prayer and joyfully surrender yourself thoroughly, completely, without any reservation to your Lord and Savior, Jesus.

This simple daily spiritual routine – more than anything else – will help you grow closer to Him and to Know Him, which is eternal life. It’s a daily time alone with God when you can be still before Him and let Him speak His truth into your heart through His Word.

May our Lord provide you with the desires of your heart that He has planted in you long before you were born and continue to bless you richly with His Right hand as you seek to know Him.

In Christ,

Bill
