The Lies We're Told

Which of these lies do you believe?

The world tells us that the pursuit of the American dream is our highest calling. God tells us that our highest calling is to love Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. And to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.

The world tells us that self-reliance, self-determination, and self-confidence are virtues and signs of a successful man. God wants us to rely on him for everything.

The world tells us that happiness and purpose are found in our job. God tells us that the pursuits of the world are empty and that our purpose is to know and love Him.

The world tells us that we have the power to accomplish anything if we try hard enough and are willing to sacrifice things like family, relationships, and free-time. God tells us that He has the power and if we will just submit to Him and His will for our life, we will have joy and peace.

The world tells us to treat other people how they treat us…fight hate with hate. God tells us to love and to pray for our enemies.

The world tells us to fear those who look, behave, or believe differently from us. God tells us to love each other as He has loved us.

The lies of the world feed directly into our ego, the chink in our armor. Puffing us up and telling us that we “deserve” more than we have now. All we have to do is go get it.

Which of these lies is the hardest for you to see through? Is there another prominent lie that we left off our list?

With Gratitude,

Jeremiah
